Book 2021 Course (New Format)

Now taking bookings for our 2021 ST1 Interview Course to take place on the 16th & 17th of January 2021 at the Western Eye Hospital. We are also expanding and have added a solely online interview course on Saturday 23rd January 2021 for those unable to attend in person

The interview process for 2021 has changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and now will be an online assessment. At iSurgeon we will do our utmost to ensure the course is reflective of this new interview process

2020 ST1 Interview Course Success

January 20, 2020

Our first events of the year were a huge success with both days being sold out, attracting candidates from all over the country. The feedback was 100% positive. We wish all the candidates the best of luck in the real interview in February!

Dr Ibtesham Hossain (Co-Founder)

ST2 Ophthalmology Specialist Trainee, London (North Thames)

Dr Hossain graduated from Imperial College London in 2017. He was awarded triple distinction for his MBBS as well as a First Class Honours in Pharmacology (BSc). He successfully completed his foundation training in 2019, and was successful in securing an ST1 post on his first attempt, obtaining he's first choice training post in London.

Dr Omer Jamall (Co-Founder)

ST2 Ophthalmology Specialist Trainee, London (North Thames)

Dr Omer Jamall graduated from Imperial College London in 2017. He was awarded an MBBS as well as a First Class Honours with a national prize in Endocrinology (BSc). He successfully completed his foundation training in 2019, and was successful in securing an ST1 post on his first attempt, obtaining he's first choice training post in London.

Dr Shaz Rehan (ST1 Ambassador)

ST1 Ophthalmology Specialist Trainee, Cardiff (Wales)

Dr Rehan graduated from Cardiff Medical School in 2016. He was awarded a Distinction with Honours for his MBBCh. He also holds a First Class with Honours Optometry degree (BSc). After completing foundation training he was successful in securing an ST1 post at the first attempt and ranked 2nd in the country. Dr Rehan also attended the 2020 iSurgeon course as a candidate

Dr Mustafa Ali (ST1 Ambassador)

ST1 Ophthalmology Specialist Trainee, Birmingham (West Midlands)

Dr Ali graduated from Imperial College London in 2017. He was awarded an MBBS and BSc in Endocrinology. After completing his Foundation Training in 2019, he went on to do an MSc at the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology based at Moorfields. He completed this and was successful in securing an ST1 post on his first attempt, obtaining one of the top jobs in the country. Dr Ali also attended the 2020 iSurgeon course as a candidate.

Dr Saeed Azizi (ST1 Ambassador)

ST1 Ophthalmology Specialist Trainee, London (North Thames)

Dr Azizi graduated from St. George’s University of London in 2018. He won 11 prizes and awards during his time in medical school. He successfully completed an academic foundation programme with research interests in ophthalmic surgery in low-resource settings. He was successful in securing a ST1 post on his first attempt, ranking 3rd in the country.

Dr Mumta Kanda (ST1 Ambassador)

ST1 Ophthalmology Specialist Trainee, London (North Thames)

Dr Kanda completed her studies at the University of Cambridge and Imperial College London in 2018, graduating with a first-class BA and MBBS. She came second in the Duke Elder examination in 2018. Dr Kanda completed her foundation training in the North and East London deanery and secured her first choice ST1 post on the first attempt, ranking fourth in the country. Dr Kanda also attended the 2020 iSurgeon course as a candidate.

Dr Nadia Arif (ST1 Ambassador)

ST1 Ophthalmology Specialist Trainee, London (North Thames)

Dr Nadia Arif has started her ST1 Ophthalmology training at the Western Eye Hospital in North London having completed her Academic Foundation Training in Birmingham. She trained at Brighton and Sussex Medical School and undertook an intercalated BSc in Management at Imperial College London where she graduated with First class Honours. During her undergraduate studies, Nadia published several papers and has presented her projects at national and international conferences. In her spare time, Nadia enjoys cooking, long-distance running and playing racquet sports.

Dr Simrun Virdee (ST1 Ambassador)

ST1 Ophthalmology Specialist Trainee, London (North Thames)

Dr Virdee graduated from University College London (UCL) in 2018. He was awarded 1st prize for overall performance in his final year of MBBS as well as his BSc (Medical Physics). He successfully completed his foundation training in 2020, and was successful in securing an ST1 post on his first attempt, ranking within the top 10 in the country. Dr Virdee also attended the 2020 iSurgeon course as a candidate.

Dr Jameel Mushtaq (ST1 Ambassador)

ST1 Ophthalmology Specialist Trainee, London (North Thames)

Dr Mushtaq graduated from St George’s University of London with a distinction in Medical Sciences. After completing his foundation years, he undertook Core Surgical Training in South London during which he passed the Royal College of Surgeons membership exams. He then passed the FRCOphth Part 1 exam and successfully gained an ST1 post in North London. Dr Mushtaq also attended the 2020 iSurgeon course as a candidate.

Dr Syed Ahmed (ST1 Ambassador)

ST1 Ophthalmology Specialist Trainee, London (North Thames)

Dr Ahmed graduated from Brighton and Sussex Medical School in 2017 with a MBBS and BSc Honours degree in Neuroscience. He completed his foundation training in 2019, and was successful in securing an ST1 Ophthalmology post on his first attempt in the East Midlands (South) deanery. Following this, he re-applied to the national training programme and was successful again in securing a training post in the North London deanery, ranking within the top 15 candidates in the country. Dr Ahmed also attended the 2020 iSurgeon course as a candidate
